Sports Massage

Sports massage is not only for sports people. Anyone who is experiencing everyday levels of strain and stress will benefit. Sports Massage releases muscular tension and pain, aids the lymphatic system, improves circulation and enhances the functional quality of muscle tissue.

That being said, if you are an athlete there is no doubt that this form of massage will have an enormous impact on your performance. Its unique advantages are prevention of injury, controlling repetitive strain and overuse syndromes.

Regular treatment allows you to train to your full potential and recover optimally and will help you by ensuring your muscles are in peak condition to allow you to perform to your best ability.

Sports massage should be incorporated into any sports person’s training plan whether they are injured or purely looking to maintain better physical condition. It is also important to remember that non-athletes also benefit from regular massage as sitting at a desk, driving and other daily activities can also cause a build-up of tension in the musculoskeletal system.

Swedish Massage

General Swedish Massage is the treatment that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish Massage technique is to relax the entire body.

Massage is recorded as one of the earliest forms of physical therapy and was used over 3000 years ago in China, India and Greece. Its popular use in the Western world is largely due to the work of Per Henrik Ling (1776 – 1839), who developed the form of massage now known as Swedish massage. Ling developed his own style of massage and exercise to help fencers and gymnasts, gaining international recognition in the process. Many of his ideas have formed the foundations of modern massage which is used today.

Swedish massage techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion like tapping, bending and stretching. Before and during your massage session, communication is encouraged with your therapist so that your treatment can be customised to your specific individual needs.

Swedish massage is the most common and best known type of massage in the West. If it’s your first time at the clinic or you don’t get massage often, Swedish is the best place to start.

Deep Tissue Massage

If you want deeper work and can tolerate more pressure to get relief from chronic muscle pain, it’s better to book a Deep Tissue Massage, which is a more intense form of Swedish massage, and is one of the most effective and readily available ways to prevent and treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness.

Deep Tissue Massage is generally applied where there is a specific problem such as a chronic injury or inflexibility. This form of massage aims to improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and increase the range of joint movement.

Deep Tissue Massage can incorporate a number of techniques and have numerous benefits including improving blood circulation, speeding up the healing of damaged or stressed muscles, tissues and joints and preventing future muscle and tendon injuries. Deep Tissue Massage is great for releasing muscle tension and generally restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system. This form of massage is very effective in breaking down scar tissue and eliminating chronic patterns of tension throughout the body.
